There are five songs in the album, and one bit title song. Last week Vijay and Anushka has completed a week long shoot in Pollachi. Later, they shot a song near Athirapilly waterfalls in Chalakudy, Kerala. Now they are completing some street scenes in and around Chennai.

Unnaipol Oruvan is a forthcoming bilingual Indian film directed by Chakri Toleti, starring Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal in the lead role. Thoranai Movie Review

Thoranai is in the final stages, as per latest reports. The film, which has Vishal and Shriya pairing up on screen, is directed by Iyappan. Others in the cast include Prakash Raj and Santhanam. The Thoranai team was recently spotted in Hyderabad’s Sultan Bazaar where a fight sequence was shot. With just a few scenes to be shot, the film’s post production work is expected to commence very soon.

There is also a buzz in the film industry that Thoranai could hit the marquee sometime during the third week of May. Thoranai is being produced by GK Films, the home production of Vishal. This week two Bollywood movies have been released and one of these movies is Luck By Chance. The movie has been directed by debutant director Zoya Akhtar. The movie is based on real aspects of Bollywood. It shows all the 'behind-the-scenes' drama which happens in showbiz. The movie Luck By Chance realy explores the dark side of film making.

Sona [Konkona Sen Sharma] arrives in Mumbai with dreams of becoming a film star. She does whatever it takes, to make it. She is hooked on by a false promise by a producer in the hope of that elusive break. She does bit roles at his insistence hoping that when his film goes on the floor, she will play the lead. Vikram [Farhan Akhtar] has just moved to the city leaving the comforts of his Delhi home. He is used to getting what he wants and is smart enough to know when to demand it and when to manipulate it. Gradually, Sona and Vikram develop a romantic relationship.

Sona soon learns that she has been taken for a ride. By chance, she drops the envelopes containing Vikram's photographs with her 'producer friend'. As luck would have it, the photographs reach the right hands.

Rolly (Rishi Kapoor) is a successful but superstitious producer who only works with the biggest stars. He is making a potential blockbuster launching the nubile Nikki (Isha Sharwani), the 18-year-old daughter of 70's superstar, Neena (Dimple Kapadia). The hero of the film, Zaffar Khan (Hrithik Roshan), is Rolly's favorite superstar. He was launched by Rolly and went on to become a huge draw at the box office.

The wheels of fate indeed continue to spin favorably for Vikram, as elsewhere in the industry, havoc spreads on the sets of producer Rommy Rolly's new film. Vikram is called in for an audition and uses this opportunity to the fullest.

This time Vikram gets his break, not for a side role, but for the lead. He makes his move with the heroine, Nikki (Isha Sharvani). The press gets a whiff of the story and before his release; the 'dirt' has been splashed. Sona gracefully moves away, rejected a second time. Vikram shifts gears into his newfound stardom. Somewhere he realizes that he misses Sona. But she has made up her mind.

Luck By Chance is film that takes out the character straight from the real life. Each and every character in this film has a vital role to play. Every character has his or her own significance in the film.

On the acting front, Farhan again proves his ability. He is developing into a great actor. Konkona Sen Sharma is outstanding in her performance. Dimple Kapadia is wonderful. Isha Shravani has played her role beautifully. Rishi Kapoor is unbelievable. Sanjay Kapoor is astonishing. Aly Khan is Ok. Hritik Rishan is superb as usual.

On the whole, Luck By Chance has a right starcast and good story. The screen play is quite lively in the first half. But it turns to be slightly flimsy in latter part till the last few minutes. Nevertheless, an appealing climax diminishes those flaws. Overall Luck By Chance is an outstanding film in all respects.

Aasma Music Review

Looking at the CD of Rohit Nayyar's Aasma, I was taken aback to see Sajid's name on it. Mercifully, it wasn't Sajid (of Sajid-Wajid fame) but another Sajid, who has composed the music for the film along with Afsar. Let's see what it sounds like...

Ye Pal

Interesting right from the start, Xulfi's vocals and the mellow feel of Ye Pal draw you in. Acoustic guitars, whistling, violins and catchy feelgood parts combined with fresh-sounding lyrics that will rid you of worries everytime you listen to it. Sweet and just the right duration.

Aasma

With a naughty piano intro and female vocals, the title track is as likeable as Ye Pal. This is unique Hindi rock! The drums and bass are exceptionally good on this one, and this is something new for Bollywood music. The lyrics by Shahab Allahabadi are alright on this one, but the CD doesn't say who's doing vocals here. I can recognise Shaan as one of the three people singing. Guitar solos in Hindi songs are a welcome breeze of fresh air, by the way. Not that good when followed by bhangra music, though.

Man Bawra

What an excellent track! Is this Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan? The CD doesn't say... Man Bawra, with tabla by Bipin Panchal and great lyrics by Shahab Allahabadi is outstanding. The word aasma keeps coming up every now and then. The lyrics are so good, they could easily have come from Kailash Kher. Man Bawra is a beautifully woven song... very listenable.

Chalte Rahein

What is this? Bollywood hasn't heard Hindi rock of such quality before. Everything on this soundtrack sounds so fresh, it makes the whole album stand out. There is a sweet guitar solo on Chalte Rahein, followed by vocals by Debojit.

The Remixes

Ye Pal Remix is the song done techo-style, while Aasma Club Mix is exactly what the name says. Man Bawra Lounge Mix is the best sounding track on Aasma's soundtrack... the parts are very dark before the vocals come in, and there is some superb bass-playing throughout.

The sad version of Aasma is sung by Kailash Kher, and there are vocals by Mahalaxmi and another man, too. Kher's vocals stand above everything else here, of course.

VERDICT

Afsar and Sajid have composed music that sounds fresh and unique for Bollywood. Shahab Allahabadi's lyrics are really good, too. Every fan of Hindi music should give the soundtrack of Aasma a few listens. It's quite nice.
